Live from the Southern Women’s Show

We had a blast at this year’s Southern Women's Show here in Richmond, VA this past weekend!  Unbeknownst to show vendors, we scoured the entire show for this year’s winners of our O-fficial Awards for the Cutest, Funniest and Yummiest items at the show, plus an Honorable Mention.

On Sunday we informed the winners and invited them to be with us live on-air on the main stage from the Southern Women’s Show for a special one-hour radio show.  It was a bit like a moving circus, but we got to chat with each one of them.

PLUS, our home and small office efficiency expert Susie Hayman shared the one tip that’s key to a smooth running small business (the answer may surprise you)!

Cutest Award Winner:  Modern Mary

Seema S. Sahin, owner of Modern Mary carried the cutest Asian-inspired jackets that were both cute and soooo affordable!  Co-host Mary picked out a white one with grey and black trim to go with her red pants.

 

Yummiest Award Winner:  DePree Rum Cakes

The idea of cakes with liquor was already attractive, but when we heard Gene Dolata talk about how they were made, saw all the flavors, and then tasted them, we knew we found the Yummiest Award Winner!

 Funniest Award Winner:  Mix It Up! Wine Glasses

Not long ago we had our Chocolate, Wine & Luuv Party, so it's no surprise that when we happened upon a whole collection of hand painted wine glasses we were drawn like bees to honey.  But, these glasses were like no other we'd ever seen and made us howl!  Hubby Greg Baetje shared how his wife Christy came up with the idea.

How to Start Talking With Your Daughter

From the time young girls start to notice boys (age 8 and up), they have hundreds of questions – and feelings about their bodies.  If a mom is lucky, her daughter(s) will come to her for answers and explanations. 

But, all too often, moms are reluctant to talk about bodily changes, relationships, and more, so girls get little or wrong information.

Mary's Office Re-invention

Ever dread walking into your office?  Not because of the work you need to get done. 

Because you’ve got piles that need to be sorted, you don’t have enough room for all your stuff so it’s stacked against the wall, and because you've run out of ideas how to make your space better.

That was how Mary felt about her home office that she shares with assistant Vicky and her Crazy Glue Bill, who also has his own business.  Until enough was enough.  Things had to change.

On “Girlfriend We Gotta Talk!” our guest Susie Hayman shared what happened next.  An office efficiency expert and owner of "In Your Business", Susie was called in by Mary to well, get into her business and re-invent her office space.
